Women’s Health
The Birth Foundations’ Women’s Health initiative provides Midwives, Labor Doulas, Postpartum professionals and local community members supporting the rights of parents to have access to Midwives and Doulas to support and encourage healthy childbirth experiences.
Midwifery Care
Midwifery care is not always accessible to all families. With the limitations of insurance coverage to the limitations of family funds, Midwifery is not always attainable. Midwifery is a safe, quality, evidence-based birth option for all low risk expecting mothers.
Why do some women choose Midwifery Led Maternal Care? Midwifery is holistic and family centered care. Midwives have been caring for women for centuries, far before the obstetrical model of care was developed by men in the early 19th century. The standards of care by Midwives in CA are regulated and Midwives must be licensed by the Medical Board to practice in CA. Studies have proven Midwifery care is as safe as, or safer than delivering in a hospital setting (for low risk women) All the while allowing and supporting women to trust in the innate wisdom of their body and baby.
If you currently qualify for Medi-cal or are already a Medi-cal recipient, you have the option to choose Midwifery led prenatal care and a birth center delivery. You can learn more by clicking below.
Birth Doulas
Birth doulas are not a luxury, they are a necessity. The Birth Foundation will provide access to mothers wanting & needing labor support.
Postpartum Support
In the US, 1 out of 4 women will experience postpartum depression. This is unfathomable, every mother should be cared for, loved, nurtured and supported.
Studies show that Postpartum Doulas help to reduce cases of Postpartum Mood disorders and support early infant-parent bonding relationships.
